Osborne appears as a disgraced detective (“a man of theory”) in Lars Von Trier’s The Element of Crime (1984). His lineage, however, goes back much further, evidence of which regularly appears in the mails at the Lost Signals address, the most recent of which is this obscure item with his signature, accompanied by a covering document, the Time Book. Osborne’s careful, halting signature suggests someone of an advanced age, even in 1912. “New Castle Junction,” on the covering page (misread as “Near Castle Junction” in some of the literature) still operates as a hub for the exchange of illicit printed material–scarce as it is–relating to Osborne. —N.
